What to wear to your photography session

Choosing what to wear for your photography session can sometimes feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t need to be complicated. Soft, neutral colours and comfortable clothing photograph beautifully and help keep the focus on connection and emotion rather than outfits.

Simple, timeless clothing helps create photographs that will still feel beautiful many years from now.

Colours that photograph particularly well include cream, beige, soft grey, white and earthy tones. These tones work beautifully together and create a soft, natural look in photographs while allowing your family’s connection and personality to shine.

Rather than everyone wearing the same outfit, it works best to coordinate colours and textures so your outfits complement each other. Soft fabrics such as linen, cotton and knitwear photograph especially well and add beautiful texture to your images.

It is usually best to avoid bold logos, bright patterns or very vibrant colours, as these can draw attention away from the natural connection between you and your family.

Most importantly, choose clothing that feels comfortable and natural to you, so you can relax and simply enjoy the experience together.

Maternity Sessions

Flowing fabrics and soft textures photograph beautifully for maternity sessions and help highlight your baby bump in a natural and flattering way.

Many mums love wearing long dresses or gowns that move gently and create an elegant, timeless look. I also offer a client wardrobe for mums, with beautiful dresses that photograph perfectly and help take the stress out of choosing what to wear.

Newborn Sessions

For newborn sessions, simple and comfortable clothing works best. Soft neutral tones photograph beautifully and help keep the focus on your baby and the connection within your family.

Parents often choose light knitwear, soft dresses or simple shirts in neutral colours.

Babies are wrapped in soft wraps and blankets selected specifically for the session, so you don’t need to bring special clothing for them unless there is something meaningful you would like included.

Family Sessions

For family sessions, coordinating colours works much better than everyone wearing exactly the same outfit.

Choosing a simple colour palette and mixing textures such as linen, cotton or knitwear creates a natural and timeless look.

Children should feel comfortable and able to move freely so they can play, explore and interact naturally during the session.
